Proposals due by Nov. 13; Will Be Reviewed by Panel of Top ScientistsOctober 19, 2015 – PHILADELPHIA – Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is making $7.5 million in research funding available to early-career scientists who are pursuing innovative approaches to cancer, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) announced today. A total of 10 Innovative Research Grants (IRGs) will be funded up to $750,000 each over three years.
This is the third round of IRG funding offered by SU2C. Previous rounds were awarded in 2009 and 2011, to a total of 26 grant recipients.
IRGs offer financial support to independent, early-career scientists pursuing novel, high-risk, high-reward cancer research proposals that have significant potential for translation to clinical application and hold great promise for advancing SU2C’s overarching goal of improving and saving lives. Provided that these criteria are met, proposals may focus on any discipline within basic, translational, or clinical research.
The deadline for letters of intent (LOIs) from those interested in applying is Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, by noon ET. LOIs should be submitted online via proposalCENTRAL at https://proposalcentral.altum.com.
The SU2C Innovative Research Grant Committee, composed of leading cancer physician-scientists and researchers, will review each eligible LOI and select finalists who will be invited to submit full research proposals. Finalists will present their proposals to the committee in person in early 2016. Recipients will be announced at the AACR Annual Meeting 2016 in New Orleans in April.

Sharp, PhD, Nobel laureate and institute professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, and chairperson of the SU2C Scientific Advisory Committee. “With inadequate federal funding in cancer research, it is more important than ever to support and encourage early-career scientists who bring so much to the field, and we are delighted that SUC2 is continuing its investment in tomorrow’s cancer research leaders.”

The Stand Up To Cancer Initiative
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established in 2008 by film and media leaders who utilize the industry’s resources to engage the public in supporting a new, collaborative model of cancer research, and to increase awareness about cancer prevention as well as progress being made in the fight against the disease.
